Erie County is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy Sheriff - Criminal (Spanish Speaking). This role involves patrolling assigned areas, apprehending suspects, enforcing laws, investigating complaints, controlling traffic, interviewing witnesses, operating and maintaining patrol vehicles, interacting with incarcerated individuals, protecting property, preparing reports and evidence for court, photographing and fingerprinting suspects, dispatching units, working with other agencies, receiving and relaying complaints, operating computer terminals, answering public inquiries, interacting with the community, recording civil processes, reviewing legal documents, managing fees and monies, maintaining records of payments, preparing checks, recording bank deposits and statements, assisting with trial balances, recording property sale results, executing civil orders, serving orders and writs, seizing and inventorying property, and auctioning property of defendants failing to pay assessments. Candidates must be able to converse fluently in both English and Spanish. A $30.00 filing fee is required for this exam, with provisions for fee waivers under specific circumstances. The examination is prepared and rated by the New York State Department of Civil Service.
