This recruitment is being established to obtain a current eligible list for both Full Time and Extra-Help vacancies. Extra-Help are not entitled to county benefits and are limited to a maximum of 25 hours per week. Extra-Help pay is $26.55 - $33.93 per hour. The Deputy Probation Officer is responsible for the intake/investigation and/or supervision of cases involving offenders. This role serves as an intake officer in determining if a juvenile petition will be filed. The officer conducts an inquiry into the nature of a reported offense or conduct of a client and the circumstances surrounding same. Duties include interviewing clients, families, and interested individuals to determine the nature of their community, school, and employment, financial or marital difficulties. The role involves monitoring and supervision of offenders under court order or departmental disposition, which entails face-to-face contact with offenders, family members, law enforcement, employers, victims, and other public or private agencies. The officer prepares and submits court reports, may present reports in court, and answers court questions. Responsibilities include reviewing case files, developing plans for regular contacts with probationers, providing counsel, guidance, and support, holding interview and counseling sessions, advising clients of community resources, and arranging for financial payments. The officer reviews case progress with a supervisor, conducts searches, uses appropriate force when necessary, may arrest and detain probationers, collects urine samples, prepares affidavits of probation violations, prepares adoption/custody reports, cooperates with other agencies, and represents the department at court hearings.
