About The Position
The Deputy Director of Visuals at the San Antonio Express-News helped lead daily operations of the department to ensure an audience-driven focus on informative and engaging photography and videos. The mission of this role was to increase engagement and enhance the visual quality of digital and print news reports. The position reports to the regional director of visuals, Michel Fortier.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years of visuals experience within a news organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, photography, video or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
- Ability to edit video on deadline when needed.

- Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Edit visual content for quality, accuracy and relevance across platforms.
- Coordinate scheduling and logistics for daily assignments and breaking news.
- Collaborate across departments to seek out visual opportunities.
- Help manage and coach visual journalists.
- Coordination with the audience team on initiatives to build audience.
- Daily presentation of visuals in the afternoon budget meeting.
- Editing of video projects as needed.
