About The Position

Prevents crime, enforces laws, apprehends suspects, and assists citizens. The Deputy Patrol Officer enforces laws and ordinances and investigates violations of the same. This role requires following department policies and procedures, studying applicable federal, state, and local laws and ordinances, and maintaining a working knowledge of arrestee rights. The position involves mediating disputes, responding to notices of disturbance, patrolling assigned areas, conducting searches, interrogating suspects, gathering evidence, and interviewing victims and witnesses. The officer will also be required to testify in court. Strong computer skills are essential for documenting cases, evaluating situations, analyzing information, and being a strong team player. The role also includes performing other duties as assigned by a supervisor, showing up for work on time and ready to work, and the ability to work a schedule to meet all obligations of the position, independently or in a team. Communication in English (verbally & in writing) and adherence to the policies and procedures of the County and the Sheriff’s Office are also critical. The ability to meet the physical requirements listed below is necessary.

Requirements

  • Colorado Peace Officer’s Certification required.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Driver’s License Required.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to run for long periods of time, if necessary, in pursuit of a suspect.
  • Ability to contain and apprehend the suspect once captured.
  • Trained in the use of communication equipment, firearms, Electronic Control Board, stun devises, camera equipment, handcuffs and leg irons, tactical equipment, bullet proof vest, PR24 Baton or ASP, restraint equipment, fire control equipment, and O.C. Spray.
  • Ability to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment at efficient speed.
  • Ability to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, and to reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to stand, sit for long periods of time, talk and hear.
  • Hearing and vision correctable to normal ranges; close-up vision and the ability to adjust focus across an audience.
  • Ability to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, carry, twist and push and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight.
  • Ability to communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls, and drive for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds regularly and occasionally lift and/or move from 50 to 100 pounds.
