About The Position

The Office of the Inspector General (OIG) has been established as an independent and nonpartisan agency to detect and deter fraud, waste, abuse, mismanagement, and corruption in and affecting state government. The Deputy Inspector General is a senior level executive who partners with the Inspector General in all aspects of leading the non-partisan, independent work of the OIG. The incumbent in this position will assist in the evaluation and oversight of cases for investigation and review. The incumbent will assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures on the appropriate steps and associated timelines for multiple investigations and reviews, while adhering to applicable standards, policies and procedures. Utilize sound judgment in monitoring the timeline and progress for matters under review. Create and track goals and measurable definitions of success. Engage with counterparts and contacts at all levels of government, civil society, and the public, including but not limited to Cabinet Members and agency officials, Legislators, non-governmental organizations, and the public.

Requirements

  • Experience in the administration or oversight of large or complex programs or projects.
  • Experience in developing courses of action and making recommendations to top-level leadership.
  • Experience in analyzing data and information for the purpose of drawing conclusions and recommendations.
  • Experience in narrative report writing and editing.

Nice To Haves

  • Substantial experience working in or knowledge of Delaware state government, including but not limited to state offices, departments, boards, commissions, committees, school districts, and other executive and legislative bodies.
  • Eligibility to practice law in the State of Delaware is a plus, but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Working with the Inspector General to lead a team of high-performing investigators, evaluators, auditors, evaluators, and other oversight and support professionals.
  • Contributing sound judgment and expertise to the assessment and review of complaints and allegations, and in leading and conducting timely, non-partisan, independent investigations and reviews.
  • Reviewing and editing written reports and other investigative and oversight work products and publications to ensure thoroughness, accuracy, and transparency.
  • Engaging independently and professionally with senior agency leaders and others in Delaware state government, as well as federal, state, and local oversight partners and law enforcement agencies.
  • Engaging with and representing the OIG before non-governmental organizations and stakeholders, and the public.
