About The Position

The Globe and Mail is seeking a Deputy Editor to help build and deliver the Intelligence Unit, a new editorial franchise focused on Canada’s most pressing long-term challenges and opportunities. The intelligence unit will undertake a limited number of major projects each year, combining rigorous reporting with expert analysis and national debate. Working closely with the Intelligence Unit Editor, the Deputy Editor will help coordinate ambitious, solutions-oriented journalism that draws on expertise from both inside and outside the newsroom. This includes working with leading academics, researchers, business leaders, public-policy experts and other specialists to deepen The Globe's coverage of major national issues. The role is ideal for an editor who excels at shaping complex ideas into compelling journalism and who is energized by explanatory reporting that helps readers understand not only what is happening, but what might be done about it. Topics could range from housing and productivity to health care, education, demographic change, energy, artificial intelligence and geopolitics. The Deputy Editor will play a central role in helping the Intelligence Unit deliver on its ambitions. This is a 2-year contract position.
