About The Position

Klamath County is seeking candidates for the position of Deputy District Attorney I, II, or III. This role involves prosecuting various caseloads, reviewing police reports, drafting legal documents, and working at the discretion of the District Attorney. The county is located in southern Oregon and offers a vibrant community with outdoor recreational opportunities and a diverse art scene. The positions are hourly, non-exempt, with a combined pay range for all three levels. Klamath County offers a signing bonus and relocation expense reimbursement for qualified applicants.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of law.
  • Must be a member in good standing of the Oregon Bar at the time of appointment.
  • Experience prosecuting criminal offenses including DUII and misdemeanor assaults, thefts, etc., and felony cases.
  • Experience in prosecuting domestic violence/sexual assault cases, both felony and misdemeanors.
  • Current Driver’s License.
  • Juris Doctor Degree.

  • Experience in the criminal law field preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Prosecutes misdemeanor caseloads.
  • Reviews police reports and requests follow-up investigations as necessary.
  • Charges offenses by information or indictment.
  • Performs intake duties from submission of reports by police to final resolution.
  • Drafts legal documents such as motions, orders, memoranda, diversion agreements, and search and arrest warrants with supporting affidavits.
  • Prosecutes felony caseloads.
  • May participate in meetings assigned by the District Attorney.
  • Prosecutes major felony caseload, including Measure 11.
  • Participates in County Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) when necessary.
