About The Position

The County of Yolo District Attorney's Office is recruiting to fill one (1) regular or limited-term full-time position in the Deputy District Attorney class series. The positions will be assigned to the Criminal Unit as a Deputy District Attorney I/II/III/IV, depending on the selected candidate's experience. The starting step is determined at the hiring authority's discretion. This posting is for the Deputy District Attorney I-II classification levels. Those who are awaiting the Bar exam results are eligible to apply. However, a job offer is contingent upon passing the Bar exam and licensure. A verification of CA State Bar licensure is required by November 15, 2026. This position is open until filled and submitted applications will be reviewed on a regular basis. The applications of qualified individuals will be forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for additional consideration. In addition to filling the advertised vacancy, successful candidates will be placed on an eligible list that may be utilized to fill future vacancies as they occur. The District Attorney's Office participates in the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.

Requirements

  • Active membership in the State Bar of California.
  • For Deputy District Attorney I: No experience required.
  • For Deputy District Attorney II: Two (2) years of experience in the practice of law.
  • For Deputy District Attorney II: One (1) year of experience as an entry-level attorney in any county in the State of California or at least one (1) year of experience at a prosecutor's office in the United States.
  • For Deputy District Attorney II: Attorneys assigned to “special services” legal work must have one (1) year of experience in general civil law or in the civil and criminal prosecution of consumer or environmental law.
  • Completed online County of Yolo Employment Application.
  • Completed Supplemental Questionnaire.
  • Detailed resume.
  • Verification of CA State Bar licensure (a printout from the "Attorney Search" section of the California State Bar website is acceptable).

Responsibilities

  • Represent the People of the State of California in criminal proceedings.
  • Conduct legal research and prepare legal documents, including briefs, motions, and opinions.
  • Prosecute or defend cases in court, including conducting trials, hearings, and arraignments.
  • Advise law enforcement agencies on legal matters.
  • Work with victims and witnesses.
  • Collaborate with other attorneys and legal professionals.
  • Maintain active membership in the State Bar of California.
  • Potentially possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license, Class C or higher, for some positions.
