The Deputy Communications Director serves as a senior member of the Department’s Communications and External/Public Affairs Office and provides communications, project management, and executive support to the Deputy Secretary for Communications and External/Public Affairs and the Communications Director. The position plays a key role in developing, recommending, implementing, and evaluating communications strategies and programs that advance the Department’s mission, support the Governor’s and Secretary’s priorities, and promote North Carolina’s economic and workforce development efforts. The position requires strong writing, editing, project management, organizational, and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with executive leadership, media, businesses, government officials, and other stakeholders. The position performs other duties and related special assignments as needed to support the communications priorities and objectives of the Department. Some travel will be required, including occasional overnight. Travel will be mostly in-state. Must have a valid NC Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of employment.
