About The Position

The Office of the Clerk of Superior Court, Lincoln County, seeks a qualified individual to serve in the position of Deputy Clerk in the legal system of North Carolina. Deputy Clerks perform specialized clerical and administrative work in a Clerk of Superior Court office that involves interacting with the public, processing initial filings, continuances, judgments, and maintaining case documentation. This position is temporary, full-time, and will end on November 16, 2026.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Knowledge of NC general statutes.
  • Knowledge of policies and procedures related to the local judicial district.
  • Knowledge of juvenile proceedings.
  • Knowledge of eWarrants.
  • Knowledge of eCourts.
  • Knowledge of general office and clerical procedures.
  • Skills in basic math.
  • Skills in active listening.
  • Skills in managing a high volume of public interaction.
  • Skills in effectively communicating both verbally and in writing.
  • Skills in fast, accurate data entry.
  • Skills in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to read and comprehend legal documents.

Responsibilities

  • Process cash receipts.
  • Review, prepare, and process criminal and civil cases including misdemeanors, infractions, divorce, child custody, and juvenile cases.
  • Process cases, produce records, and maintain case files in the courtroom during court sessions.
  • Establish and maintain case files for adoptions, determinations of incompetency, foreclosures, motor vehicle liens, etc.
  • Provide sensitive information for juvenile casework to attorneys, Guardians ad Litem (GAL), the Department of Social Services (DSS), and the Department of Public Safety (DPS).
  • Administer estates of the deceased and explain procedures to family members and other authorized representatives.
