About The Position

Physician Affiliate Group of New York (PAGNY) is adding a Deputy Chief Medical Officer to the group at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. North Central Bronx (NCB) is a 213-bed community hospital providing quality care in a friendly setting. This facility provides a range of services and is known for its outstanding Behavioral Health, Women’s Health, Primary Care, Pediatric, Geriatric, and Specialty Ambulatory services. The Deputy Chief Medical Officer (DCMO) is an executive healthcare leader and member of the Senior Leadership Team at NYC Health + Hospitals/North Central Bronx. The DCMO works in close partnership with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Executive Officer to shape overall clinical strategy, drive operational excellence, and advance the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care at both North Central Bronx and also Jacobi Medical Center. This position provides clinical oversight and executive direction to adapt to an evolving healthcare landscape while ensuring accessible, high-value medical care across the facilities. The DCMO actively collaborates with Nursing, Operations, and Patient Services leadership to foster a culture of patient safety, clinical quality, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Note: The DCMO must be a credentialed member of the medical staff and maintain an active clinical practice on campus a minimum of 2-3 days per week.

Requirements

  • M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited institution.
  • Board certification in a recognized medical specialty and a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
  • Minimum 5–7 years of clinical practice experience.
  • Demonstrated progressive leadership experience (e.g., Clinical Director, Department Chair, or Medical Director) within a hospital or health system setting.
  • Strong record of cross-functional team building, clinical quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and effective communication across all levels of hospital management.

Responsibilities

  • Provide strong, visible daily clinical leadership across all inpatient and outpatient service lines.
  • Maintain active, close partnerships with the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), Chief Operating Officer (COO), Clinical Department Chairs, Residency Program Directors, and leadership across Risk Management, Occupational Health, and Infection Prevention.
  • Lead and participate in daily hospital-wide safety huddles to proactively address operational bottlenecks and clinical safety concerns.
  • Build collaborative relationships across clinical and administrative departments to standardize workflows, break down operational silos, and achieve shared institutional goals.
  • Align clinical teams and department units around a shared strategic vision to optimize both short-term performance and long-term organizational growth.
  • Lead the integration of evidence-based clinical practices into new and existing care delivery pathways.
  • Direct and support the local implementation of broader NYC Health + Hospitals health system initiatives.
  • Serve as the executive clinical lead for regulatory survey preparation, site visits, and performance improvement plans (e.g., The Joint Commission, CMS, NYSDOH).
  • Oversee clinical quality analytics and population health initiatives for the North Central Bronx and Jacobi Medical Center campuses, establishing clear benchmarks and monitoring operational performance.
  • Partner with Nursing and Operations leadership to streamline care management processes, reduce length of stay, and improve patient outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Risk Management to identify clinical risk factors, minimize patient safety incidents, and uphold patient rights.
  • Oversee the performance evaluation frameworks for facility clinical providers, ensuring ongoing clinical competency and alignment with medical staff standards.
  • Support clinician recruitment, retention, professional development, and engagement across all clinical service lines.
