Few people get to build a bank from scratch. Even fewer get to build one at a moment when banking itself is being reinvented. The dollar is the best product in the history of the world, with practically infinite global demand, but distribution is broken. Global clearing runs on legacy banks that are closed 115 days a year, built for humans and take two days to settle. Augustus is the update to the internet era. We received conditional approval from the OCC to charter America’s first stablecoin-native clearing bank that is always open, made for machines, at the speed of compute. We are a group of operators, unicorn early employees, ex-founders and people who walked away from degrees because they believe this is an industry and career defining opportunity. We're backed with $40M from Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures, Creandum and founders of Ramp, Deel and Circle. We are regulated in Europe and live with Euro and Stablecoin clearing today. Now, we are building the US team from the ground up, while continuing to grow rapidly in Europe. The Role You are the second senior hire on the U.S. Compliance team. You work directly with the Chief Compliance Officer, Chief Risk Officer, and Chief Operating Officer to build a BSA/AML program that moves as fast as our API. You own the end-to-end BSA/AML, Fraud, and OFAC programs — moving them from manual oversight to a tech-first operation. You take full ownership of transaction monitoring strategies and KYC/KYB architecture and you partner closely with Operations, who builds and runs the systems that execute them. The compliance stack you build is a competitive advantage, not a bottleneck. The end state is a high-throughput, low-latency compliance machine. You manage the relationship with regulators and customers, defending our logic with data and confidence. When we launch new products or enter new markets, your systems are the foundation that makes it possible. Your First Six Months Month 1-2: You get into the stack. You understand exactly how money moves through our infrastructure, where the current compliance controls sit, and where the gaps are. You build a clear picture of what policies need to be written or updated, what controls need to be strengthened, and what can wait — and you align with Operations on what gets automated next. Month 3-4: You're the primary point of contact for regulatory and partner reviews. You defend our BSA program with data, reduce false positives in transaction monitoring, and lead quality assurance and regulatory reporting. You're building confidence - internally and externally - that our compliance keeps pace with our product. Month 5-6: You're building for what comes next - new markets, new asset classes, new products. The compliance engine is no longer just a safeguard. It's the foundation that lets us ship faster and move more money with confidence. Who Will Thrive At Augustus We believe that throwing smart people with high agency at big problems produces the best outcomes. The people who succeed here share the following traits: Relentless: You can't leave something broken. You don't stop because it got hard or because no one is watching. Set The Bar: You're harder on yourself than anyone else would be. You don't need external accountability to care about quality. Shape The Game: You don't wait for a playbook and you don't need one. You walk into genuinely new territory and figure it out. You move before anyone asked you to. Systems First: You don't solve problems by adding people or effort. You build systems that make the problem smaller. Your first instinct is to automate, not to handle it manually. This role is for you if: You find it more satisfying to build an AML program from scratch than to maintain a legacy manual in a corporate basement. You enjoy diving into raw transaction data and building logic to catch suspicious patterns, rather than just checking boxes on an audit list. You thrive in the gray area where traditional banking regulations meet programmable money and real-time payments. You approach compliance as a product feature, not a cost center - and you want to understand the technical nuances of how programmable money actually moves. You prefer shipping high-quality policy updates in days, not months of committee meetings. You get energized by making compliance a competitive advantage that enables growth rather than a bottleneck that stops it. This is not for you if: You prefer a quiet office environment where your primary job is to review alerts and check boxes from a pre-defined manual. You need a large compliance team or an external consultant to tell you how to interpret new regulatory guidance. You are uncomfortable with ambiguity or feel stressed when compliance workflows haven't been built yet. You think of 'the business' and 'compliance' as two opposing teams rather than a single product goal. You prefer managing people and processes over getting your hands dirty in the data and transaction logs. You believe 'that’s how it’s always been done' is a valid justification for a compliance requirement. You want to work alone and set your own timelines against well-defined requirements and stable priorities.
