About The Position

The Delaware Department of Justice is seeking exceptional, highly motivated individuals to join the Criminal Division as Deputy Attorneys General in New Castle County. If you are an attorney driven by purpose and ready to handle serious, impactful cases, the Criminal Division offers a career unlike any other. Make an impact where it matters most—on the front lines of justice. In this role, Deputy Attorneys General prosecute serious and complex cases, including homicide, domestic violence, special victims, and other violent crimes, while protecting the communities of New Castle County. In New Castle County, the Criminal Division is comprised of several specialized units, including the Felony Trial Unit, Felony Screening Unit, Special Victims Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, Homicide Unit, and the Violent Enterprise (VCE) Unit. Deputy Attorneys General are responsible for reviewing and charging criminal cases; preparing and prosecuting cases in court; conducting trials, hearings, and plea negotiations; providing legal guidance to law enforcement during investigations; and maintaining regular communication with victims and witnesses to ensure just outcomes. This is a fast-paced, courtroom-focused environment. Attorneys appear in court regularly, try cases, and gain significant hands-on experience early in their careers. They develop strong trial advocacy skills, a deep understanding of evidentiary and court rules, and the ability to effectively evaluate and manage cases. Successful candidates receive strong support from experienced leadership, participate in extensive in-house training, and have access to national, regional, and local professional development opportunities.
