About The Position

The Department of Economic Security (DES) is seeking an experienced and highly motivated professional to join our team as a Deputy Assistant Director. In this leadership role, the Deputy Assistant Director partners directly with the Assistant Director to direct division and department-wide strategies and initiatives, oversee business operations, and drive operational excellence. This position directly manages Division Administrators, taking an active role in guiding daily operational decisions to support DBS leadership and staff, and acts on behalf of the Assistant Director in their absence. The Deputy Assistant Director leads complex enterprise-level projects that optimize administrative and program outcomes across the agency. This position may offer the ability to work remotely within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

Requirements

  • Knowledge in DES and Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) policies and procedures regarding systems and services
  • Knowledge in State Personnel Rules and basic legislative processes
  • Knowledge in Principles of management, administration, and DBS logistics
  • Knowledge in State Budgeting, financial management, and DES financial systems
  • Skilled in Analyzing complex data and formulating actionable, high-level conclusions
  • Skilled in Leveraging technology for efficiency and interpreting executive direction to drive results
  • Skilled in Monitoring performance measures and completing management performance appraisals
  • Skilled in Writing clear business correspondence, executive reports, and strategic documentation
  • Ability to Lead diverse groups with complex needs toward a common goal by analyzing challenging situations, identifying opportunities for continuous improvement, and implementing effective solutions
  • Ability to Adapt quickly to a constantly changing work environment
  • Ability to Consider the entire Department when making strategic and operational decisions
  • Five years of state management experience, including at least two years in administration and logistics, or two years of financial management or budget oversight.
  • Possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license.
  • Successfully pass background and reference checks.
  • Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).

Responsibilities

  • Leads, directs, and monitors daily operational, personnel, and business support services through subordinate administrators and managers
  • Oversees complex enterprise-level agency projects and Department initiatives
  • Maintains oversight of the Division's budget and financial responsibilities to support DES shared expenses and financial systems
  • Oversees and develops division strategic plans aligned with the Department's mission, vision, and values
