About The Position

Under the direct supervision of the Tribal Chairman as Tribal Administrator, the DAPO is responsible for the oversight and direction of the daily operations of the assigned Tribal departments and programs.

Requirements

  • High level of Competency in computer programs and the ability to conduct on-line research.
  • Adhere to a strict level of confidentiality on all Tribal matters.
  • Considerable knowledge of supervision, organization, and administration; knowledge of current trends and developments in the field of public administration and finance, ability to learn the inter-working of the Yerington Paiute Tribe government, ability to express ideas effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Knowledge of tribal customs and culturally sensitive while working with tribes and co-workers within the Native community and Tribal programs.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with Tribal officials, Tribal members, Federal entities and the general public.
  • Able to lift 40 lbs or more.
  • Possess a valid Nevada Driver’s License and be insurable.
  • Pass pre-employment drug screen and complete background investigation.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from a four (4) year college or university with combined experience in major course work in business or public administration, at least five (5) years demonstrated experience in the management and supervision of Tribal government programs, including budgets, reports, compliance requirements, staffing and a string background with applicable federal laws and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, plans and directs the activities of the assigned tribal departments with the Tribal Chairman to develop and implement all initiatives set forth by Tribal Council.
  • Interprets and follows the policies and procedures of the Yerington Paiute Tribe, including Tribal Codes. Assists in the formulation of new policies and codes when necessary.
  • Ensures compliance with all regulatory/program policy requirements governing the administration of tribal government programs and related activities of the Tribe.
  • Assists in the development of short and long range strategic plans.
  • Review and evaluate program activities.
  • Analyze data, recommend appropriate actions.
  • Maintain program records, contracts and track monthly reconciliations and carry-over.
  • Provides effective supervision, training, and staff development to assigned departments, Tribal Council and Enterprise Managers.
  • Responsible for review of all proposed grants and contract requests, assists in negotiations.
  • Coordinates with Deputy Administrator of Fiscal Operations to prepare and administer the Tribe’s annual budgets and program budgets to ensure compliance and fiscal accountability.
  • Provide monthly narrative reports to Tribal Council on all activities performed.
  • In coordination with Tribal Chairman, researches and attracts future Tribal Economic Development ventures.
  • Develops staff schedules, on site-visits and sets goals for program and tribal government operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
