About The Position

As a Deposit and Payment Processing Specialist, you play a vital role in keeping BECU’s financial ecosystem moving smoothly, accurately, and securely. Every transaction you touch supports our members’ financial well-being and trust in BECU. Using your attention to detail and knowledge of electronic funds transfer systems, you ensure payments are processed accurately, reconciliations balance perfectly, and funds move exactly where they should—on time, every time. Your work directly supports members, strengthens partnerships with financial institutions, and helps BECU meet regulatory standards with confidence. Simply put, your impact shows up in every successful transaction and every member who can rely on their money being there when they need it. This role is hybrid and requires 2-3 days a week onsite at our office in Tukwila, WA.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum two years of experience in a financial institution with operational experience such as data entry, item processing, reconciliation, fraud identification or related experience required
  • Verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate in the English language
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • PC and 10 key skills with the ability to learn new software
  • Ability to perform multiple responsibilities with a high degree of accuracy
  • Full-time hours required, with additional hours as necessary

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one year of experience processing ACH and Wires preferred
  • Continuing education, including courses and seminars pertaining to ACH and check clearing processes and regulations preferred
  • Good analytical, research and problem solving skills

Responsibilities

  • Process and Balance Critical Transactions: Ensure all payment files are processed, reconciled, and balanced accurately so that credits and debits post correctly to the general ledger and member accounts.
  • Manage Wires and ACH with Confidence: Process, monitor, and maintain domestic and international wire transfers and ACH transactions, ensuring compliance with NACHA and Federal Reserve guidelines.
  • Support Time-Sensitive Payment Operations: Ensure check clearing, wire transfers, internal investments, and ACH activities meet all required timeframes established by the Federal Reserve.
  • Handle Incoming and Outgoing Wires: Retrieve, post, and verify wires daily to ensure member and internal accounts reflect accurate credits and debits.
  • Investigate and Resolve Exceptions: Research discrepancies, locate root causes, and resolve internal and external exceptions so balances stay accurate and issues are resolved efficiently.
  • Operate Imaging and Processing Technology: Use image scanners to capture check and remittance documents, ensuring accuracy and efficiency across multiple work types.
  • Collaborate with Financial Institutions: Maintain clear and professional communication with financial institutions regarding cash letters, return letters, and transaction statuses.
  • Deliver Outstanding Member Support: Respond to member inquiries promptly and professionally, providing clear answers and peace of mind.
  • Safeguard Records and Documentation: Maintain credit union records securely and systematically, ensuring compliance and audit readiness.
  • Ensure Regulatory and Policy Compliance: Apply knowledge of Federal Reserve, NACHA, NWCHA, and credit union policies to help BECU meet all regulatory requirements.
  • Partner with Leadership on Adjustments: Prepare and present complete documentation for charge-off adjustment items requiring leadership approval.
  • Contribute Beyond the Basics: Take on additional responsibilities as needed, supporting team success and operational excellence.
