About The Position

The Departmental Quality Specialist coordinates a variety of advanced and highly complex departmental-level quality activities and projects. This is a 100% onsite position at the ORMC Lab working on Project Improvement plans for the Core Lab.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in healthcare or related field required.
  • Hold Nationally recognized certification (MT, ASCP, CLS or NCA) by the American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) eligible.
  • Five (5) years of laboratory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides advanced consultation to departmental team members to optimize use of information systems to include MediaLab, SharePoint, SWIFT, safety event reporting system, electronic temperature monitoring applications and others, as appropriate.
  • Recommends system usage improvements to enhance departmental workflow and efficiency.
  • Prepares the department for system upgrades or maintenance.
  • Performs occasional informal end user system training on various departmental specific applications.
  • Prepares a variety of complex to advanced custom reports using system vendor-supplied or supported exclusive of native SQL report writing tools.
  • Develops non-networked worksheets and databases using Microsoft Office tools, limited to purposes of individual user productivity improvement or departmental file-sharing.
  • Participates in system implementation, maintenance, complex troubleshooting, and complex problem resolution as a subject matter expert under the lead of or in conjunction with Information Services.
  • Supports end users regarding system problems, requests, and/or help as agreed upon with Information Services.
  • Organizes and coordinates system level policy reviews and revisions, both patient care and laboratory specific policies.
  • Monitors system performance and reports problems to Information Services for subsequent vendor follow-up if/as necessary.
  • Serves as the department's Safety representative and organizes activities, education and necessary subcommittees for safety.
  • Assists the Laboratory with maintaining and achieving compliance with regulatory requirements including Joint Commission and the College of American Pathologists.
  • Maintains reasonably regular, punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
  • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
  • Understands the core business practices of the department.
  • Cross-trains other team members as necessary to provide backup.
  • Documents processes and activities.
  • Provides on-call support as needed.
  • Perform Specimen collection procedures, specimen receiving, and processing as needed it.
  • Responsible for an active role in the Lab Quality Improvement Program
