Department Manager – Construction Management C&S is a leading Construction Management (CM) firm, specializing in delivering client centered projects in the public and private sectors. Our K-12 Construction Management team partners with school districts across New York State to improve learning environments for students and support educators. We’re seeking an experienced K-12 professional to serve as Department Manager to lead project delivery, support project teams and drive business growth within the Jeff-Lewis, St. Lawerence, FEH, HFM, CVES, WSSHE and Capital Region. General responsibilities include: Provide clear vision for people, processes and projects of the department in alignment with the broader K-12 strategy.  Facilitate positive team engagement, collaboration, and motivation of team  Staff development (recruitment, retention, training, mentoring and coaching)Client service and quality (innovation, application of technology and standards)Workload coordination and utilization Department financial goals (BNB, revenue, profit) Project financials (variances, WIP,AR) Engage in key business development strategies, marketing, and select pursuits, including fostering relationships with key business partners, conference attendance and sponsorship, and development of proposals Engage in resolution of significant employee, project, and client service issues.  Collaborate and coordinate with the K-12 Construction Management team to ensure overall success within the market segment. Including resource allocation, business development and project delivery methodology and approach.  Expectation is that the Department Manager would be assigned a space within the Syracuse Office to work from an average of 1 day per week. 

Requirements

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively lead teams
  • Oversee multiple projects in terms of schedules, staffing and revenue.
  • Thorough understanding of project, department and group financials
  • Highly skilled in mentoring and staff management for the group
  • Commitment to daily travel throughout the region
  • Ability to identify, pursue and be selected for ongoing or new project assignments
  • In depth understanding of SED requirements with regard to project approval process, safety requirements and project financing
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management or engineering is preferred. 20+ years’ experience in Construction, with at least 10 years in K-12 Construction Management required.

  • Preferred completion of leadership training (e.g., ACEC Pathways, C&S Leaders Course, C&S Personal Mastery Course, or similar)
