About The Position

The Department Administrator oversees, manages, and directs the day-to-day clinical, operational, administrative, business, financial, and academic functions of the department. This role partners with the Department Chair, faculty, supervisors, and department leadership to establish strategic priorities, develop operational goals, and implement initiatives. The administrator is responsible for directing personnel, analyzing performance data, managing the department's budget, and developing policies and procedures. They also oversee billing and collections, foster a positive work environment, and ensure compliance with various regulations. This position serves as a liaison between the department and external institutions and is expected to enhance professional growth through continuous learning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Three to five years of experience in Health Care Administration, Nursing, or other related clinical experience required.
  • Knowledge of healthcare operations, budgeting, personnel management, regulatory compliance, HIPAA, quality improvement, Microsoft Office applications (particularly Excel), and the ability to learn and effectively utilize electronic health records and other healthcare information systems preferred.

  • Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Nursing, or a related field is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, manages, and directs the day-to-day clinical, operational, administrative, business, financial, and academic functions of the department.
  • Partners with the Department Chair, faculty, supervisors, and department leadership to establish strategic priorities, develop operational goals, implement initiatives, and ensure accountability.
  • Directs the recruitment, selection, onboarding, training, development, supervision, and retention of departmental personnel.
  • Performs staff evaluations and disciplinary actions in consultation with HR and/or COO.
  • Analyzes, interprets, and presents operational, financial, productivity, quality, and performance data to the Department Chair and executive leadership.
  • Develops, manages, and monitors the department's annual budget while maintaining fiscal accountability.
  • Develops, implements, maintains, and evaluates departmental policies, procedures, and workflows.
  • Oversees the operational performance of departmental billing, collections, revenue cycle activities, and related financial processes.
  • Creates a positive, team-based work environment that promotes accountability, engagement, continuous improvement, professional development, and excellent customer service.
  • Communicates effectively with staff, physicians, and other departments within Marshall Health and the School of Medicine and serves as the liaison between department and external institutions/agencies.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, university, and organizational regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, The Joint Commission (TJC), infection prevention standards, environmental safety requirements, and other regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Enhances professional growth and development by attending educational workshops and conferences, reviewing professional publications, and maintaining knowledge of healthcare operations and regulatory requirements.
  • Serves on various committees and performs other duties as assigned.
