About The Position

The Dentist provides comprehensive, patient-centered dental care in a quality-oriented manner in support of El Rio Health’s mission to provide affordable and accessible health care. The role also provides clinical supervision and instruction to AEGD residents and dental students, supervises dental auxiliary staff, and collaborates with medical staff as part of the Integrative Health Home Model. The Dentist provides general dentistry within the standard of care, completes related administrative and clinical documentation, participates in quality assurance and peer review, and maintains compliance with applicable safety, infection-control, confidentiality, and Joint Commission requirements. The position includes assigned clinical sessions, rotating after-hours emergency telephone coverage for patients of record, and evening or Saturday clinic staffing as directed by the Dental Director. It also involves community engagement, continuing dental education, cost-conscious use of resources, and maintaining current licensure and credentials.

Requirements

Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) or Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) from a dental school accredited by the American Dental Association.
Arizona State Board of Dental Examiners licensure.
Current Arizona State Licensure Certificate of Renewal.
Current DEA Number Certificate.
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for health care providers.
Current and valid Level I fingerprint clearance card in good standing, or application for the card within seven working days after beginning employment.
Reliable transportation that can accommodate organizational operational reassignments during the workday.
Valid driver’s license and compliance with Arizona vehicle insurance requirements when driving during work hours.
Proficiency with MS Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and the internet.
Ability to apply fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Ability to multitask and maintain professional composure in stressful situations.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
Ability to interact with people of varied social, cultural, economic, and educational backgrounds to provide guidance and customer service.
Ability to interact diplomatically with the public in a continuous-contact setting.
Ability to respond effectively in writing and verbally to internal and external customers.
Ability to write grammatically correct routine business correspondence, such as brief transmittal memoranda.

Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive dental care within the standard of care for a General Dentist in a quality-oriented, efficient, and cost-effective manner.
Complete administrative duties, including chart documentation, referrals, pre-authorizations, lab case follow-up, chart review, and attending duties for dental residents and students.
Participate in the Center’s Quality Assurance Program and peer review process.
Follow OSHA regulations and Center policies for employee safety, infection control, and sterilization.
Follow HIPAA regulations and Center policies regarding patient confidentiality.
Attend required committee and staff meetings.
Maintain current licensure and credentialing and a satisfactory or better annual performance evaluation.
Maintain a safe work environment, address or report hazards, follow health and safety procedures, and participate in safety programs as assigned.
Work assigned clinical sessions and attend residents or students during clinical sessions as directed by the Dental Director, arriving prepared and punctually.
Take rotating after-hours emergency telephone calls for patients of record.
Staff evening or Saturday clinics as determined by clinic policies and directed by the Dental Director.
Collaborate with the Health Center’s medical staff and consult regarding patients’ dental problems.
Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic work environment in accordance with applicable policies and procedures.
Demonstrate proficiency with compliance and reporting requirements related to Joint Commission Certification standards.
Provide excellent customer service, address and resolve complaints, model El Rio Behavioral Standards, and apply AIDET principles consistently.
Directly supervise dental team members and direct dental auxiliary staff in their normally assigned duties.
Work cooperatively with providers and staff to support high standards of patient service and quality care.
Promote a professional, respectful, and inclusive working environment that values diversity and multiculturalism.
Supervise AEGD residents and dental students according to ADA accreditation requirements and facility policies.
Contribute to team efforts by following Behavioral Guidelines and Code of Conduct policies.
Meet established minimum patient productivity goals in a cost-effective, quality-oriented manner.
Use Health Center resources, supplies, and equipment effectively and judiciously, limiting waste.
Complete continuing dental education as required by the Board of Dental Examiners (currently 24 hours per year).
Represent El Rio Health professionally and serve as a positive informational resource for the community.
Participate in community events that promote good health and awareness of El Rio Health services.
Participate in appropriate health care activities at local, state, and national levels to support El Rio’s image with agencies, professional associations, and the public.
Maintain proficiency with El Rio operating systems and software, learning and demonstrating new skills as systems and programs change.
Perform other duties as assigned.
