About The Position

The Dentist provides general and comprehensive dental services in the Oral Health Clinic, including diagnosing, treating, and preventing oral health issues, including teeth and gum diseases, and performing routine check-ups and cleanings. The dentist supervises dental assistants, dental hygienists, and/or other dental program support personnel.

Requirements

  • Doctorate in Dental Surgery or Dental Medicine from a dental education program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, AND completion of a General Practice Residency from an accredited program by the Commission on Dental Accreditation.
  • Current Licensure from the Arkansas Board of Dental Examiners.
  • Current certificate in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive dental examinations of patients.
  • Diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and oral structures.
  • Restores teeth, including composite restorations, crowns, and fixed partial dentures.
  • Restores edentulous spaces, including fabricating dentures, partials, implant crowns, implant-supported fixed partial dentures, and other dental appliances.
  • Performs dental surgery, including the extraction of teeth and roots, removal of impacted teeth, necessary alveoplasty, and implant placement.
  • Performs root canal therapy to treat infected or damaged tooth pulp.
  • Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures.
  • Treats pathological conditions of the oral cavity.
  • Takes and analyzes oral radiographs for diagnostic purposes.
  • Address oral trauma involving dentition and surrounding structures.
  • Sutures facial lacerations within and around the oral cavity.
  • Prescribes medications for infection control, pain control, and for the control of viral, bacterial, and fungal infections.
  • Provides instructions in oral hygiene and methods of preventing the spread of oral diseases.
  • Reviews medical histories and records dental treatment in medical charts to ensure that the treatment plan does not compromise patient health.
  • Completes inpatient dental consults and communicates with other healthcare professionals regarding mutual patients.
  • Fit and adjust other prosthodontic appliances in the patient’s mouth, including but not limited to obturators.
  • Participants in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Analyzes and identifies critical factors of patient care to facilitate the enhancement of the quality and efficiency of the clinic.
  • Facilitates changes to improve the clinic through effective communication, collaboration, and interdisciplinary problem-solving.
  • Oversees the work and provides guidance and direction to dental assistants, hygienists, and other support personnel.
  • Participates in staff performance by assessing competency and providing education and constructive feedback on an ongoing basis.
  • Monitors and addresses employee performance/behavioral needs on an ongoing basis.
  • Demonstrates cost-conscious awareness and effectively utilizes staff, space, and supplies within budgetary restraints.
  • Other duties as assigned.
