About The Position

Responsible for administering a comprehensive, public health, and dental program for the YDSP community members. The Dentist oversees the prevention, education and clinical programs and services. The Dentist diagnoses and treats diseases, injuries, and malformations of teeth and gums and related oral structures. The Dentist examines patient to determine nature of condition, utilizing x-rays, dental instruments, and other diagnostic procedures. The Dentist cleans, fills, extracts, and replaces teeth, using rotary and hand instruments, dental appliances, medications, and surgical implements.

Requirements

  • Degree in dental surgery (D.D.S) or dental medicine (D.M.D) from a school approved by the Council on Dental Education or American Dental Association
  • Current license to practice dentistry in a state, the District of Columbia , or Puerto Rico
  • Post-licensure professional experience in the general practice of dentistry
  • Must possess a valid drivers license and be insurable
  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be able to successfully pass a post-offer drug screen and extensive criminal background history check
  • Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures
  • Must be computer literate and have working knowledge of MS Office
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and display exceptional customer service to maintain good community and staff relations
  • Able to work effectively as part of a management team dedicated to community health initiatives
  • Must be able to adapt to multi-projects and challenging assignments
  • Must have dynamic personality and able to work with the public
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care/services to neo-natal, pediatric, adolescent, adult geriatric patients
  • Examines teeth, gums, and related tissues using dental instruments, dental radiographs, and other diagnostic instruments
  • Provides general dentistry procedures to include simple and complex restorations using approved restorative materials
  • Examines, diagnoses and treats periodontal structures and diseases
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats diseases of the dental pulp and other dental tissues affecting the vitality of teeth and establishes treatment plan
  • Treats exposure of the dental pulp by pulp capping or removal of the dental pulp from the pulp chamber and root canal
  • Design, make, and fit prosthodontic appliances such as space maintainers, bridges, and dentures, or write fabrication instructions or prescriptions for denturists and dental technicians
  • Examines, diagnoses, and treats specific teeth for extraction and/or surgical removal
  • Prescribes medications and enters workload into workload data reporting system
  • Consults with and refers patients to appropriate specialists as a last resort
  • Conducts oral health, tobacco cessation, and diet counseling
  • Administer anesthetics to limit the amount of pain experienced by patients during procedures
  • Formulate plan of treatment for patient's teeth and mouth tissue
  • Coordinates community outreach services and screenings
  • Provides leadership, direction, and supervision to dental staff
  • Active participant in health related committees
  • Participates in disaster preparedness and response as deemed necessary
  • Responsible for dental department program management and budget
  • Collaborates with other direct service partners to address disease incidence and oral health/disease trends
  • Other duties as required and assigned
