Requirements

  • Graduation from an approved school of dentistry.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.
  • Possess a license to practice dentistry issued by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • PA residency requirement is currently waived for this title.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise the daily work of the institution's dental staff.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of the clinical dental services provided to the inmate population, including periodic examinations, diagnosing oral diseases, and treating injuries.
  • Provide basic dental care and perform all dental treatment.
  • Assist specialists in the performance of treatment and related duties while on-site.
  • Assure that adequate security, tool control, and Toxic and Caustic Control are carried out within the dental office.
  • Consult with and refer inmate patients to physicians, oral surgeons, and other health care professionals.
