About The Position

The Nebraska Department of Correctional Services (NDCS) is seeking a Dentist to work at the Omaha Correctional Center. NDCS employs nearly 2,300 team members across nine institutions statewide, housing approximately 5,800 inmates. The department focuses on inmate programming and education, physical and behavioral healthcare, re-entry services, and community programs. NDCS is accredited by the American Correctional Association (ACA). Requirements

  • Degree in Dentistry
  • Licensed to practice Dentistry in Nebraska
  • Must submit to background security check
  • Must pass the pre-employment medical exam and a drug test
  • Must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Department of Correctional Services Training Program

Responsibilities

  • Conduct periodic exams of inmate's teeth, gingiva and oral mucous for infections and diseases, and prepare charts for same.
  • Diagnose diseases and lesions, take X-rays and prepare study models as necessary.
  • Provide restorative dentistry.
  • Conduct oral surgery through the administration of anesthesia and the extraction of teeth by incision, excision and extirpation.
  • Administer drugs orally, topically, by injection and/or prescription.
