About The Position

The Uintah and Ouray Health Center is an ambulatory 40-hour facility staffed by physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, and dental, optometry, and psychology providers. They provide comprehensive public health services including general medical, surgical follow-up, pediatric, prenatal, and postpartum care. Dental, behavioral health, and optometry services are also available. Other clinical specialties are provided by visiting consultant and are scheduled periodically. Patients requiring more complex medical care are referred to the hospital or other contract facilities.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience as a dentist after dental school. One year of Fellowship can count as this experience.
  • Must have DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school program; doctorate is required.
  • Must have certification of Basic Life Support.
  • Must have an active, unrestricted, and free of disciplinary action license as a dental assistant in a State, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Perform dental cleanings, tooth extractions, tooth preservation and any other basic dental procedures commonly performed in an outpatient setting and commensurate with the dental provider's training.
  • Efficiently navigate via electronic medical records for prescribing, documentation, and orders including referrals.
  • Interview and examine patients, review past medical history, and request and/or perform diagnostic tests and examinations deemed necessary to obtain all possible information related to each case.
  • Prescribe medications as indicated.
  • Instruct and counsel patients and family members as required and does so in a culturally sensitive manner.
  • Refer patients to appropriate contract facilities, providing pertinent clinical information for dental care and diagnostic dental procedures that cannot be adequately provided at the Uintah and Ouray Service Unit.
  • Assure preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care.
  • Work with Allied health professionals to utilize and coordinate the services of other health care professionals in the management of the patient's dental problems.
  • Provide minor dental office surgery such as drainage of a tooth abscess.
  • Provide office-based dental care from childhood to adulthood.
