About The Position

Angell Animal Medical Center is looking for an experienced Assistant or Certified Veterinary Technician for our growing specialty service in dentistry. The Veterinary Dental Technician/Assistant works closely with the Dental Staff, Dental Supervisor, Dental Veterinarians, the veterinary staff and hospital support staff from other departments. The primary responsibility of the Veterinary Dental Technician/Assistant is to provide the highest quality dental care to the patients of the Angell Animal Medical Center in the Dental Service. The Veterinary Dental Technician/Assistant must work in conjunction with a team of doctors and technicians to provide support and direction for the interns and residents. Our fully equipped dental suite has been designed specifically for Angell. We are looking for applicants who demonstrate aptitude for multi-tasking and working successfully in a team environment. The successful candidate should be able to communicate effectively, both in writing and verbally, to the veterinary and technical staff as well as clients and referring veterinarians. Dental Technicians split their time between assisting in procedures by performing anesthesia monitoring, radiographs, and dental scale and polish, and assisting the dental veterinarian with appointments and other administrative tasks such as phone calls to clients.

Requirements

  • Ideally 2 years of experience working as a veterinary technician/assistant.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a certified veterinary technician in order to be hired as a veterinary technician.
  • Recent graduates from an accredited veterinary technology program are encouraged to apply!

Responsibilities

  • Obtain proficiency in all tasks & procedures outlined in the anesthetic skills checklist. Any viable candidate that is hired will undergo a training period in surgery/anesthesia protocols, before transferring to Dentistry for final training in dental techniques.
  • Utilize technical and clinical expertise in order to effectively assess, induce, monitor and stabilize all dental, emergent and urgent case types.
  • Demonstrate and model strong technical skills including but not limited to venipuncture, IV catheter placement, intubation, CPR procedures and proper patient restraint/handling.
  • Provide technical support during emergency situations and arrests and with patients requiring intensive anesthetic monitoring.
