Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Current CPR/BLS certification (must be American Heart Association or Red Cross accredited program).
  • Valid CA Driver's License and auto insurance.
  • Minimum of one (1) or more years of experience working in a dental practice or educational environment.
  • Ability to answer phones, communicate with providers, residents, students and staff.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions.
  • Must demonstrate effective English communication skills both oral and written.
  • Able to effectively assist other staff in the course of their daily task.
  • Work independently for the full scope of all designated job responsibilities.
  • Knowledge of Infection Control Protocol, OSHA guidelines and other State Laws & Regulations pertaining to the practice of Dentistry.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
  • Must not now or in the future require sponsorship for employment visas.

Nice To Haves

  • Graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting Course preferred.
  • Preferred back-office or dental assisting experience.
  • Minimum one (1) year front or back dental office experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the sterilization, maintenance, and organization of instruments and storage of dental/medical instruments.
  • Maintenance of the ultrasonic cleaner, autoclave, and other materials in the sterilization area.
  • Assist Lead Registered Dental Assistant and Dental Clinic Manager with tracking inventory and with supply shortage list when needed.
  • Perform standard OSHA standards and office SOP's concerning the cleaning and handling of instruments and the handling of biohazardous waste.
  • Clean, decontaminate, inspect and track reusable instrumentation; Utilize personal protective barrier.
  • Clean ultrasonic tab and replace cold solution every 28 days or per SACHS/OSHA guidelines, policy and procedures.
  • Disassemble, clean, identify and separate varied and complex dental and medical instrumentation appropriately, maintain a separation of the dirty and clean side of the sterilization area while performing duties.
  • Break down trays as they come in from exams and treatments; disposes of single use items and disposables in accordance with SOP's.
  • Review, assemble and package instrumentation singles, cassettes in preparation for sterilization.
  • Sterilize items according to product requirements to include compliance with all regulatory board and safety requirements; Collect, receive and maintain log for reusable instruments for sterilization processing.
  • Responsible for daily stocking of sterilization supplies and instruments for dental and medical department; Perform quality assurance, documentation and quality control activities on all instrumentation, equipment, and biological testing appropriately.
  • Familiar and practice infection control protocol and OSHA guidelines; Discard sharps containers thru disposal system.
  • Maintain neat, clean and stocked sterilization and supply area. Store packaged sterile instruments according to department guidelines so that all staff members can retrieve and account for instruments quickly. Sorts mismatched instruments, trays and equipment.
  • Set-up and break down rooms as assigned; Assist Dental Assistants and Registered Dental Assistants as needed; Assists Lead Registered Dental Assistant with supply inventory.
  • Order sterilization supply through Central Supply and report equipment malfunctions.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work as a viable team member.
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of staff.
  • Must be able to adhere to the Attendance policy and procedure.
  • Ability to collaborate, teach, support and function in a teaching organization that builds, coaches and embraces interns and residency programs. Must demonstrate a passion for the team and have the ability to consistently work with rotating doctors, residents and interns, while continuously building a trusting, safe, patient centered workplace.
  • Demonstrate the ability to be culturally sensitive and respect diversity, work effectively and with individuals of different cultures and socioeconomic status, Passion for service. It is the expectation of SACHS that all staff members exhibit critical thinking and solution.
  • Ability to be flexible to travel to other clinics as necessary; must have a reliable vehicle, valid driver's license, and auto insurance.
  • Other duties as assigned by department leadership.
