About The Position

The Sterile Processing Assistant STAR Dental is responsible for supporting the daily functions of Star Community Health Dental by maintaining and operating the sterilization equipment, ensuring that dental instruments and supplies are properly cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized. This role involves maintaining records and logs, checking inventory, and executing proper infection control measures.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Standing up to 4 hours per day; 2 hours at a time.
  • Walking up to 4 hours per day, 2 hours at a time.
  • Sitting up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time.
  • Frequent use of fingers and hands for data entry, assembling instrument trays and packaging items.
  • Frequent walking, lifting, carrying, pushing of objects weighing up to 100lbs. with assistance.
  • Frequent squatting, kneeling, occasional stooping/bending, crouching, and reaching above shoulder level.
  • Must be able to hear above noise level of operating equipment (sterilizers).
  • Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color and peripheral visions (must be able to detect defects in instruments).

Responsibilities

  • Understands and executes proper infection control measures, follows OSHA guidelines and CDC infection prevention practices
  • Responsible for all dental instruments being cleaned, sterilized, and properly stored
  • Operating, monitoring, and cleaning of sterilization equipment
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment and workspace
  • Prepares clinical items and set ups throughout the day, helps clinical team with infection control and cleaning of operatories between appointments
  • Maintain dental equipment and materials, maintain records of inventory or tool usage and relay information to dental program clinical lead to order supplies
  • Check sterile supplies to ensure that they are not outdated
  • Deliver tools to specified locations in the office
  • Perform daily and weekly infection control tests to ensure optimum sterility
  • Observing instruments during sterilization procedures to ensure that sterilization standards are being followed
  • Preparing sterilization equipment for use by maintaining sterilizer logs and maintenance schedules, determining whether sterilization equipment is working properly by performing routine maintenance checks
