About The Position

Assist the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in their duties and lead the dental services department in a manner consistent with the mission of People’s Community Clinic. Work collaboratively with other employees to achieve high standards of operational efficiency and service effectiveness. This position works as the clinical leader of the dental services program and as a member of a care team, coordinating patient care and supporting patients and families in self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change. Care team members are expected to assess and manage the health needs of the patient population and to communicate effectively with all patients, especially vulnerable populations.

Requirements

  • DDS/DMD from an accredited dental school
  • Minimum three years’ experience as a dentist, which may include time in a post-graduate training program.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of and experience performing dental services, including the use of dental equipment
  • Knowledge of best practices related to oral hygiene and health care
  • Knowledge of and experience in diagnosing dental disease and conditions, and documentation of examination findings and courses of treatment
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Problem identification and resolution skills
  • Time management skills
  • Ability to maintain effective and consistently cordial working relationships with physicians and other employees
  • Flexible and adaptable in a high change environment
  • Ability to work independently
  • Hold and maintain a current license to practice dentistry in the State of Texas
  • Current DPS and DEA registrations
  • CPR certification

Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical leadership for the dental services program, including setting the standard and scope of oral health care, serving as the oral health champion, providing input into quality improvement programs, directly supervising other dentists or hygienists, and managing the Board-approved budget.
  • Provide direct dental care for patients according to established standards of care, including comprehensive exams, diagnosis, treatment planning, taking health histories, counseling patients, performing daily procedures (oral exams, hygiene checks, simple extractions, restorative treatment, sealants), and providing medically necessary follow-up.
  • Create an environment of respect and compassion for patients and staff, and support a friendly and positive work environment.
  • Maintain an awareness of the budget and work in conjunction with the operations team to attain the financial objectives of the office.
  • Maintain standards of proficiency, service quality, efficiency, and effectiveness in all task areas.
  • Provide direct care in an efficient and timely manner, as scheduled during the week, and meet standards for quality of care and number of patients seen.
  • Maintain professional licensing and certifications, and practice liability insurance coverage.
  • Participate in quality improvement/quality assurance activities, including chart audits, and identify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes, and patient care.
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection control guidelines.
  • Participate in program planning, development, evaluation, and implementation activities, including updating protocols and guidelines, reviewing patient education materials, and participating in meetings and task groups.
