About The Position

The Dental Receptionist is responsible for managing the front desk operations of a dental office, ensuring efficient patient flow and excellent customer service. This role involves handling patient appointments, billing inquiries, financial information, and maintaining patient records. The position requires strong communication, organizational, and computer skills to support the dental team and provide a positive experience for patients.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of six months of previous experience in a medical/dental office or customer service position required.
  • Excellent communication and math skills.
  • Organized and detailed.
  • Efficient typing, computer, calculator, and filing skills.
  • Courteous telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to protect patients’ rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal and financial information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with, and relate to, a diverse population in a professional and courteous manner including patients and coworkers.
  • Flexible and able to function as a team member.
  • Good verbal and written skills.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire workday.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and or twist while holding up to 25 lbs. occasionally.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree in health related field preferred.
  • Pertinent experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
  • One to two years of experience in a dental office setting preferred.
  • Bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Answers telephones, including scheduling appointments, handling billing inquiries, and taking detailed dental communication notes.
  • Prepares for future appointments by printing daily schedules, confirming appointments, and filling cancellations.
  • Greets incoming patients and visitors, marks the schedule, updates patient registration information, and prepares encounter worksheets.
  • Acquires patient financial information, collects payments, completes income determination, and verifies insurance eligibility.
  • Manages the cash drawer and ensures accuracy of the daily deposit.
  • Assists outgoing patients, schedules appointments, and completes appointment cards.
  • Reviews treatment plans with dental support staff and makes financial arrangements.
  • Establishes interpreter services as needed.
  • Utilizes computer software programs, scans documents into patient records, and electronically inputs, prints, and mails no-show letters.
  • Generates patient portal pin numbers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
