About The Position

This is a part-time, non-exempt (hourly) position for a Dental Mobile Unit Driver at Mecklenburg County Public Health. The driver will be responsible for operating a mobile dental unit, ensuring its maintenance, and assisting passengers. The role involves understanding and complying with traffic laws, using navigation systems, maintaining trip records, performing daily and weekly vehicle inspections and cleaning, and assisting passengers with boarding and de-boarding. The driver will also be responsible for setting up and taking down the mobile unit at various sites daily. Requirements

  • Minimum of one year of experience driving a commercial vehicle, or successful completion of Central Piedmont Community College or approved driving school’s CDL Driving Program.
  • Must have an acceptable driving record per County standards.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Driver's License.
  • Requires County Driving Privileges.
  • Annual Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check required.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual (Spanish and English) proficiency oral and written.
  • CDL preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Understand and comply with traffic laws and regulations.
  • Employ radio communication with dispatch.
  • Read and interpret road maps/GPS system.
  • Maintain accurate trip records either on paper or electronically.
  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance, including daily inspections, fuel checks, and ensuring proper fueling.
  • Perform weekly cleaning and maintenance of the vehicle, including emptying water and sewer tanks and filling water storage tanks as needed.
  • Assist passengers and/or employees with boarding, in-transit, and de-boarding as needed.
  • Drive the mobile vehicle to and from scheduled visits.
  • Set up and take down the vehicle at each site.
  • Park, set up, level, hook up, and tear down the unit daily, and return it to its designated location each day.
