About The Position

This job fair is for multiple Dental Lab Technician roles, including Comfort Splint Tech, Clear Occlusal Splint Tech, Silent Nite Technician, and Comfort Stabilizer Technician. These roles involve fabricating and repairing various dental prostheses and appliances such as dentures, partials, crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, veneers, and implant restorations. Technicians will read and interpret dental prescriptions, work with a wide range of materials (metal and non-metal), and use various hand tools and equipment. Responsibilities include making models from impressions, building wax replicas, encasing wax in mold material, and replacing wax with plastic, metal, or ceramic materials. Some roles involve building up ceramic restorations, polishing, finishing, and applying stains and glazes for a natural look. Technicians will utilize supplies and equipment through techniques like plaster casting, metal casting, die trimming, metal polishing, wax modeling, wire bending, sandblasting, electroplating, electro-spot welding, and CAD/CAM. They will document actions, work with quality control, follow protocols, and prepare equipment. Some positions are learning-focused, requiring supervision and documentation of learning through quizzes and worksheets, while others involve independent decision-making based on technical knowledge. All roles require attention to detail, adherence to quality standards, and the ability to recognize and report problem cases. The positions are located in Irvine, near John Wayne Airport.

Requirements

Basic dental training.
Prior dental experience or background (a plus).
Previous experience working in positions that require hand and finger dexterity (a plus).
Ability to read and interpret dental prescriptions.
Familiarity with a wide range of materials, such as metal (precious, non-precious, gold) or non-metal materials (porcelain, composite, acrylic, polyurethane, co-polyester, thermo plastic).
Ability to use various types of hand tools and equipment (electric drills, presses, lathes, high-heat furnaces, etc.).
Ability to work under supervision and ask for assistance/clarification.
Ability to work independently and seek help if needed.
Ability to communicate with colleagues and managers in a prompt and articulate manner.

Responsibilities

Fabricate and repair dental prostheses and dental appliances such as dentures, partials, crowns, bridges, inlay/onlay, veneers, and implant restorations.
Read and interpret dental prescriptions and follow doctors' written orders and instructions.
Work with a wide range of materials, including precious, non-precious, gold, porcelain, composite, acrylic, polyurethane, co-polyester, and thermo plastic.
Replace partial or total loss of natural teeth by constructing partial or full dentures (metal and non-metal).
Restore natural teeth and correct dental irregularities by manufacturing fixed or removable appliances.
Make models of mouth and teeth from impressions taken by a dentist.
Build-up wax replicas of part or all of the mouth and/or teeth on a model.
Encasing wax in mould material and melting away wax; replacing wax with plastic, metal, or ceramic materials to make a replacement appliance.
Build-up ceramic restoration by continuously applying layers of porcelain.
Polish and finish appliances to ensure smoothness and fit.
Apply stains and glazes to restorations to create a natural look.
Utilize and conserve supplies and equipment through techniques such as plaster casting, metal casting, die trimming, metal polishing, wax modeling, wire bending, sandblasting, electroplating, electro-spot welding, and CAD/CAM.
Use various types of hand tools and equipment, including electric drills, presses, lathes, high-heat furnaces, sandblasters, paint brushes, and carvers.
Document actions by completing forms, logs, and reports.
Work closely with quality control specialists and address all issues regarding quality standards.
Follow quality standard protocol.
Recognize and report problem cases or cases that need additional prep work.
Prepare equipment and materials (e.g., fill mixing bins, empty equipment receptacles).
Rely on technical knowledge to make decisions and accomplish departmental goals.
Perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at the direction of management.
Learn basic tooth morphology and anatomy.
Document learning by completing quizzes and worksheets.
Work under supervision of trainers and ask for assistance and/or clarification regarding technical issues.
Learn quality standard protocol and steps taken to ensure compliance.
Learn to recognize problem cases that need additional prep work.
Learn to work independently and seek help if needed.
