About The Position

NaphCare is hiring a Dental Hygienist to join their team at the William E. Donaldson Correctional Facility in Bessemer, AL. As a Correctional Dental Hygienist, you will work alongside correctional officers and other dental professionals to provide dental care to the incarcerated individuals in residence. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a difference in the lives of a diverse patient population with complex medical and dental needs within a controlled environment where security is a top priority. New graduates are encouraged to apply as training in correctional healthcare will be provided.

Requirements

Completion of an accredited dental hygiene program
Valid dental hygiene license in AL
Dental radiology certification
Active BLS CPR Certification (AHA preferred)
Strong oral hygiene knowledge
Excellent communication skills
Ability to work in a correctional environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality of all proprietary and/or confidential information
Display integrity, professionalism and be able to adhere to a Code of Conduct
Comply with all facility(s) correctional healthcare policies, procedures, and legal requirements
Must pass the facility’s criminal background check and drug screening

Responsibilities

Performing dental prophylaxis
Assessing oral health
Assisting the dentist with procedures
Cleaning teeth, removing tartar and plaque
Applying fluoride
Taking x-rays
Assisting the dentist with patient care, instruments, supplies, documentation, and supporting the function of the dental department
Sterilizing and disinfecting equipment and tools
Assisting in triage, dental sick call requests, scheduling appointments, managing patient records, and performing other administrative tasks
Explaining dental procedures and oral hygiene practices to patients
Taking and developing x-rays
Assisting with dental laboratory function
Completing periodontal charting and obtaining other diagnostic records on patients
Performing facial and oral tissue and oral cancer screenings during exams
Providing individualized oral hygiene instructions and/or other post-operative instructions to patients
Monitoring oral hygiene and periodontal conditions on each patient
Using all functions and applications of TechCare™ relevant to document dental hygiene services within the patient record
