About The Position

Variety Care is seeking a Dental Hygienist to join their team. This role focuses on educating patients on preventative oral maintenance, taking X-rays, performing manual manipulation of scalers and root planning, and understanding the proper maintenance of ultrasonic and prophylaxis instruments. The Dental Hygienist will also have knowledge of the etiology of dental disease, nutrition, and dental hygiene, and will assist the dentist during patient schedule overload. The position supports Variety Care’s accreditation as a Patient Centered Medical Home and commitment to providing safe, effective, patient-centered, timely, efficient, and equitable care. The ideal candidate will embody strong personal character, be an open and honest communicator with high moral and ethical conduct, integrity, adaptability, and sound judgment. They should be a result-oriented problem solver who is responsible and accountable.

Requirements

  • A 2-year certificate or 4-year degree from an accredited college with a dental hygiene degree.
  • Certified and Registered by the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.
  • Anesthesia license.
  • Nitrous Oxide license.
  • Experience handling confidential information.
  • Experience working in a multi-faceted, fast pace environment.
  • Experience handling stressful situations and difficult patients.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares the patients for dental treatment.
  • Arranges instrument materials, medications and sharpens instruments as necessary.
  • Instructs patients on proper dental hygiene maintenance.
  • Submits supplies requests as needed.
  • Maintains dental equipment.
  • Reports patient dental hygiene conditions to the supervising dentist.
  • Takes appropriate digital X-rays.
  • Scales (including deep root planning) and polishes teeth.
  • Follows OSHA guidelines and uses “Universal Precautions” safety rules.
  • Keeps operatories and the lab neat and aseptic always.
