About The Position

The Dental Hygienist will provide dental prophylaxis, preventive oral health services, and periodontal services for Adults in Custody (AIC) referred by the Dental Staff and will assist the Dental Officer with other related duties. The position is part-time, 32 hours per week, with an estimated pay of $39.76 - $44.85 per hour. The work location is the Federal Detention Center-Miami. The period of performance is up to five (5) years from the time of award. The Dental Hygienist is expected to wear professional clothing, such as scrub uniforms or cargo pants/polo shirt, appropriate for the correctional environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Must be certified/licensed as a Dental Hygienist in the State of Florida.
  • Dental radiology certification required.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC) or the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Knowledge and experience in maintaining medical records and confidentiality.

Nice To Haves

  • Anesthesia certification is preferred.
  • A minimum of one (1) year of experience is preferred.
  • Correctional Environment experience is preferred.
  • Bilingual oral communication skills and experience in a clinical correctional setting are desirable but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide dental prophylaxis, other preventative oral health services, and other periodontal services for Adults in Custody (AIC) who are referred to by the Dental Staff.
  • Provide thorough individualized oral hygiene instructions for each patient.
  • Monitor oral hygiene and periodontal condition on each patient seen for dental prophylaxis.
  • Sterilize instruments used for prophylaxis and other instruments as specified by the Dental Staff.
  • Provide oral health care services such as suture removal, administration of local anesthetic, and other services (if trained).
  • Oversee AIC Health Service's Workers' housekeeping and infection control procedures.
  • Perform necessary paperwork related to scheduling patients for dental prophylaxis and other Dental Services as directed by the Dental Staff.
  • Maintain medical records and confidentiality.
  • Collect and track data and enter data in the agency's electronic system.
  • Track scheduling of patient care.
  • Follow BOP, Dental Service, and institutional policies to include Employee Standards of Conduct, security, infection control, regulated waste management, and data management.
