About The Position

The Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH) is seeking a temporary Dental Hygienist to support the Dental Health Service program area. This role will focus on improving oral health throughout the state by contributing to oral health education, enhancing access to care, developing public health initiatives, and collaborating with partners. The position is part-time, with primary hours between 8:00 am and 5:00 pm, up to 20 hours per week, and is an in-office position at the central OSDH office. Occasional travel may be required.

Requirements

  • Registered Dental Hygienist
  • Active dental hygiene license issued by the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry
  • Minimum of three years of dental hygiene experience
  • Working knowledge of public health initiatives and dental public health
  • Being present in the office is an essential function of this job

Responsibilities

  • Provide training for CHD staff on fluoride varnish application as needed.
  • Lead oral health outreach efforts with CHDs and outside partners.
  • Work with Community Health Workers, Health Educators, and other OSDH team members to incorporate oral health knowledge and resources into education curriculums and program efforts.
  • Participate in Dental Health Service budget meetings monthly.
  • Assist OSDH staff as needed when choosing products/informational materials related to oral health.
  • Update and disseminate OK Senior Smiles curriculum as needed.
  • Build on the existing OSDH Communications-approved oral health education materials that are available for CHD use and public information. Update these as necessary to reflect current research and best practices.
  • Work with the director of Dental Health Service to explore potential grant opportunities that align with the program area and agency mission.
  • Collaborate with the director on grant proposals as needed.
  • Assist with facilitation of the oral health components of the OSDH Strategic Initiatives and Strategic Plan.
  • Work with OSDH Communications to develop social media posts related to oral health.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior.
  • Works effectively in team environment, participating and assisting their peers.
