About The Position

Clinica Sierra Vista is seeking a Dental Hygienist in AP Float to provide comprehensive dental hygiene services to patients across multiple dental clinics. This position requires flexibility, excellent clinical skills, and the ability to adapt to different practice environments. The Dental Hygienist in Alternative Practice is a licensed professional oral health educator and clinical operator who uses scientific methods for the control and prevention of oral diseases to aid patients in attaining and maintaining optimum oral health. They can see patients without a preliminary examination by a dentist under the California Dental Practice Act. The practice includes dental hygiene assessment, development, planning, and implementation of a dental hygiene care plan, as well as oral health education, counseling, and health screening. The Dental Hygienist uses dental hygiene care to denote all integrated preventive services administered to the patient, aiming for the best possible sequence of procedures to restore oral health and establish a long-range preventive program. They serve as part of an interdisciplinary health care team to develop, implement, and sustain oral health as part of a Patient Centered Medical Health Care plan, integrating oral health services in various settings.

Requirements

  • All applicants must hold current California Dental Hygiene License in Alternative practice.
  • Must hold dental x-ray certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Obtain health history.
  • Take radiographic survey as needed.
  • Give preliminary oral examination as necessary to chart visually identifiable decay, restorations, and oral abnormalities.
  • Perform oral prophylaxis including manual and mechanical instrumentation (cavitron), removal of all deposits on teeth (stains, plaque, and calculus), root planning procedures, and topical fluoride application.
  • Implement an effective recall system for monitoring patient performance over time.
  • Provide patients with necessary educational counseling on preventive dentistry, including motivation, plaque control, proper diet and nutrition, and tobacco cessation.
  • Refer patients to appropriate services upon completion of active hygiene services, such as routine examination by the supervising dentist, other staff dentists, specialty dental services, emergency dental services, or place on maintenance or recall visits.
