About The Position

The Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH) provides screening, preventive clinical services, counselling and education about oral health issues to community members in accordance with the Ontario Public Health Standards. These services are provided in schools, the Oral Health clinic at the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit, and in Healthy Smiles Ontario community clinics and other community settings. The RDH also collaborates with local dentists and members of the Essex County Dental Society about community-wide oral health education initiatives. The RDH is available to answer questions from local oral health providers about both clinical issues, and also Ministry programs’ fee reimbursement.

Requirements

  • Diploma in Dental Hygiene from a recognized community college or university is required
  • Minimum 2 years experience in an active Dental practice is required
  • Current certification in BLS-HCP- Basic First Aid
  • Current registration (CDHO) to practice in Ontario as a Registered Dental Hygienist
  • Maintains professional competency under the Dental Hygiene Act and the College of Dental Hygienists of Ontario
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Public Health Standards
  • Proficiency with current computer applications (Microsoft Office-Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, Internet, Outlook)
  • Ability to learn data management systems (i.e. OHISS: Dentrix Dental software)
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team
  • Excellent interpersonal, writing, organizational, and communication skills are required
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize workload
  • A valid Ontario Driver’s Licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours, as well as 1 million dollars in liability insurance
  • Physical requirements: ability to lift 25 kilograms
  • Satisfactory police information search
  • Immunizations and TB screening as per WECHU policies

Nice To Haves

  • Dental Hygiene Self-Initiation standing is preferred
  • Previous experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist in a Public Health Unit is preferred
  • Fluency (oral and written) in French or other languages would be an asset
