The Dental Hygienists Services will be performed on-site in the Health Services Department at the FCC Coleman Complex located at 846 N.E. 54th Terrace Coleman, Florida 33521.

Requirements

  • Specialty training from a licensed dentist and/or certification from an accredited Dental Hygienists University Program.
  • Certified in Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience providing Dental Hygienist services.
  • Knowledge of preventive dentistry, general and oral anatomy, physiology, histology, nutrition, dental materials and instruments, dental hygiene techniques and principles.
  • Knowledge of tooth morphology, oral anatomy, oral physiology, radiology, nutrition, the principles and techniques of preventive dentistry, the instruments and materials to perform procedures.
  • Knowledge of common oral disease and abnormal conditions such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and caries.
  • Knowledge of dental office procedures, including basic dental assisting functions.
  • Skill and dexterity in performing prophylactic and radiographic procedures.
  • Knowledge of infectious control techniques, general medical treatment and medicines used in medically compromised patients, and contraindications to dental care.
  • Ability to collect and track data and enter data into the agency’s electronic system and track scheduling of patient care.
  • Knowledge and experience in maintaining patient medical records and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide services, professional in nature, in the method as considered normal in the local community and in accordance with Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) standards and Bureau of Prison policies.
  • Generally work under the supervision of the Dentist; however, may be required to work under the supervision of the Clinical Director or a BOP mid-level practitioner.
  • Provide specialized prophylactic and preventive treatment to patients with advanced periodontal disease and other related dental problems.
  • Perform procedures including prophylaxis, examinations of the oral cavity, taking and interpreting x-rays for presence of calculus, and providing oral health care instructions to patients and the health services staff.
  • Recognize the presence of common oral disease and abnormal conditions such as gingivitis, periodontitis, and caries, provides routine prophylactic treatment, and makes appropriate referrals to the dentist.
  • Perform basic dental assisting functions such as positioning of patients, dentist, and assistant; preparing instrument trays; mixing dental materials; and disinfecting and sterilizing the instruments.
  • Collect and track data and enter data into the agency’s electronic system and track scheduling of patient care.
  • Maintain patient medical records and confidentiality.
