About The Position

The Manager of Dental Hygiene is responsible for leading and coordinating the clinical hygiene team across all of Cherry Health. This position will manage day-to-day dental operations in collaboration with the Director of Dental Clinical Services. They will supervise, coordinate, and participate in dental service activities to achieve continuous and optimal patient care at Cherry Health. Must adhere to the organizational Policies, Procedures, Code of Ethics, and all licensing and accreditation standards of the position. Must represent the organization’s Mission in all actions and communications.

Requirements

  • Active license as a Registered Dental Hygienist in the State of Michigan
  • 3 to 5 years of clinical experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist
  • At least one year of supervisory experience
  • Knowledgeable in sterilization, OSHA, PPE, and infection control
  • Must be able to offer adjunctive services such as Nitrous Oxide, administration and/or delivery of local anesthesia
  • Must hold active CPR certification
  • Able to work in an independent and flexible manner
  • Good interpersonal communication skills and self awareness
  • Cultural sensitivity
  • Must be comfortable and compassionate working with uninsured and underinsured populations.
  • Ability to occasionally travel to any Cherry Health site and related locations.
  • High School diploma or equivalent and Associates in Dental Hygiene.

Responsibilities

  • Leads clinical hygiene team across all sites in clinical hygiene needs
  • Leads hygiene team meetings to encourage communication and consistency across sites
  • Acts as a mentor/ coach for Dental Hygienists
  • Trains new Dental Hygiene hires and demonstrates standard operating procedures within the organization.
  • Directly supervises Dental Hygienists
  • Reports issues with the clinical hygiene team related to standard operating procedures to the Director Dental Clinical Services
  • Provides preventative dental care
  • Schedules appointments, understands treatment plans and costs and is able to educate the patient on both
  • Maintains accurate patient records, including the use of ICD10 codes and complying with UDS measures
  • Sanitizes operatory and sterilize instruments after each patient per OSHA standards
  • Participates in quality improvement activities, staff in-services, and continuing education as required
  • Assesses dental instruments and equipment to ensure that it is kept in proper working condition
  • Acts as a public health advocate in the community, especially in interactions with other dental care providers
  • Incorporate cultural sensitivity into practice, recognizing that cultural beliefs impact the patient’s oral health and access to care
  • Encourages the patient’s whole body health with collaboration of medical and behavioral health services
  • Reports any real or perceived errors in judgment, HIPAA violations, conflicts of interest, or ergonomic issues using the appropriate incident reporting process
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws
  • Assists and coordinates various personnel actions including but not limited to hiring, orientating, training, performance appraisals, disciplinary actions, performance improvement, work schedules, and scheduled leaves of absence
  • Works with employees to ensure that each employee understands their job description, the job expectations associated with their position and resources available to achieve desired results
  • Supervises, coordinates, and participates in dental service activities to achieve continuous and optimal patient care.
  • Ensures that all clinical administrative procedures, records, and documentation follow relevant regulations, policies, and standards at all Cherry Health sites
  • Compiles and prepares operational and activity reports in compliance with procedural requirements.
  • Wears Personal Protective Equipment, PPE as required
  • Other duties as assigned.
