Requirements

  • Associates (AA or AS) degree from an accredited institution of higher learning required.
  • Minimum five (5) years clinical dental hygiene experience required.
  • Terminally licensed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) in Dental Hygiene.
  • Certification in Infection Control (CIC) awarded by the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc., or a certificate from a recognized and approved program by leadership is required.
  • Knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities. This includes symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health-care measures.
  • Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation; psychological research methods; and the assessment and treatment of behavioral and affective disorders.
  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, including experience in mentoring and training dental hygiene staff.
  • Monitoring/Assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
  • Ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Functional and proficient knowledge and practice of various models of integrated care.
  • Ability to demonstrate an understanding and acceptance of equity, inclusion, and diversity concepts, and that they are broader than just race, ethnicity, and gender.
  • Knowledge of health disparities, substance use, and domestic violence issues, especially within the LGBTQ community
  • Demonstrated self-awareness, in terms of understanding their own culture, identity, biases, prejudices, power, privilege, and stereotypes
  • Ability to document effectively in an electronic health record environment
  • Ability to work affirmatively with gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, queer (LGBTQ), and HIV positive patients
  • Requires the ability to speak audibly and listen actively.
  • Requires ability to use computers, telephones, and other office equipment.
  • Requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time.
  • May require periodic travel; up to 30% locally.

Nice To Haves

  • A bachelor's degree in science or a related discipline is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year in a supervisory or managerial role is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, implements, and administers programs and services of the Dental Practice, including personnel administration, training, and coordination of Dental Hygienists and Dental Assistants.
  • Develops and enforces infection control protocols while consistently monitoring compliance with applicable regulations to uphold a safe and sanitary clinical environment.
  • Establishes work schedules and assignments for staff, according to workload, space, and equipment availability.
  • Provides guidance and consults with senior leadership and staff regarding potential sources of infectious diseases, while making informed decisions aimed at eliminating or reducing their impact on the organization.
  • Oversees the processes of surveillance, analysis, reporting, education, and consultation to ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards about infection prevention and control practices. Safeguards the confidentiality of the medical charts/records and complies with all local, state, and federal laws about medical records.
  • Collaborates with the dental team to carry out essential dental hygiene duties as needed, ensuring high-quality patient care.
  • Participates in all required team meetings and continuing education in-services.
  • Determines needs, orders, stores, and keeps inventory of supplies and equipment used in the clinic.
  • Adheres to and holds team accountable to Howard Brown Core Values and Customer Service expectations.
