About The Position

The Dental Director is responsible to oversee the provision of Dental Services in a Patient Centered Health Home context, with a focus on access to care. This role provides overall management and direction to departmental/division staff, including performance management, hiring/firing recommendations, and fostering a culture of accountability and excellence. The Dental Director ensures division alignment with organizational culture and strategic vision, develops and executes action plans, and empowers staff through effective communication and talent development. They also manage departmental budgets, ensure regulatory compliance, and recommend workflow improvements. Additionally, the role involves assisting with new program implementation, participating in community outreach, and providing direct dental services, including comprehensive examinations, diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient education. The position requires adherence to clinical care measures, documentation standards, and providing excellent customer service. The Dental Director must also ensure compliance with OSHA and Standard Precautions, participate in chart and peer reviews, and adhere to attendance policies. The role may require travel to various FHCN locations and includes other duties as directed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program with a recognized major with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5; or Successful attainment and maintenance of a valid, active professional license required for the role, issued by the appropriate governing or regulatory body.
  • Six years of leadership experience or seven years of progressively greater responsibility or significant contributions to projects and initiatives that demonstrate leadership skills.
  • Performance of the duties and responsibilities of the job requires extensive formal training in Dental Studies, including an understanding of the application of the theory and practices of Dentistry learned during completion of an accredited dental school program.
  • Have a minimum credit score of 650.
  • Ability to prepare more complex documents in Microsoft Word, including creating tables, charts, graphs and other elements.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Excel to analyze data, including the use of formulas, functions, lookup tables and other standard spreadsheet elements.
  • Ability to develop sophisticated presentations in Microsoft PowerPoint, including the use of embedded objects, transitions and other elements.
  • Licensed as a dentist in the state of California.
  • Job duties require the employee to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, their opinions and extrapolations of information they collect and synthesize/analyze.
  • Responsible for the resolution of conflicts that may arise because of disagreements between employees, between employees and customers/clients, or with the public, other legal entities or governmental authorities.
  • Compiles, analyzes and prepares information in an effective written form, including correspondence, reports, articles or other documentation.
  • Effectively conveys technical information to non-technical audiences.
  • While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and use repetitive hand movement to type and grasp.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand or walk; and must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

  • Assists with the development of assigned departmental/division budget(s) and monitors budget to ensure expenses do not exceed budget.
  • Ensures regulatory compliance for assigned departments/divisions, and compliance with all workflows, policies, and procedures.
  • Recommends workflow, policy, and procedure changes based on observations from performance metrics, outcomes, and feedback from assigned leadership team members.
  • Ensures department maintains compliance with all employee related reporting and tracking.
  • Assists supervisors in planning and implementing new programs for the dental department.
  • Participates in Network Health Fairs, screening activities and other community outreach events.
  • Where relevant assist the supervisor with input for performance evaluations of support staff and quality improvement.
  • Where relevant assist the Chief Clinical Officer with the review and update of clinical policies and procedures.
  • Where relevant provides feedback and guidance to resident “first point of contact staff member”, dental residents and dental assistant externs.
  • Participate in site and provider meetings in a meaningful way.
  • Responsible for participating with “On Call” coverage, per schedule.
  • Responsible for the preparation and implementation of orientation schedules for staff members.
  • Responsible for the direct provision of dental services meeting all established productivity expectations.
  • Will provide comprehensive dental examination and will review appropriate x-rays, medical and dental histories to determine a diagnosis.
  • Expected to document visits accurately utilizing appropriate templates, and record relevant data to attain a diagnosis.
  • Accountable for attaining budgeted visits.
  • Responsible for meeting clinical care measures.
  • Accountable for locking records in the 72-hour window.
  • Responsible for number of diagnostic, preventive and restorative oral procedures.
  • Evaluate the current health and condition of the patient’s teeth to determine the diagnosis of any existing dental condition.
  • Inform patients on how to prevent dental problems and keep their teeth and mouth as healthy as possible.
  • Consider treatment methods and explain options with the patient to determine which works best based on their situation.
  • When appropriate, refer patients to orthodontists, oral surgeons, periodontists or other specialists for more advanced dental procedures and treatment.
  • Accountable for providing excellent customer service and care.

  • Responsible for providing the patient with educational materials and resources appropriate to the patient’s health literacy needs.

  • Dental Provider remains aware of wait time during the daily workflow.
  • Promotes and participates in daily huddles.
  • Incorporates the participation of ancillary health team members in managing the care of the patients/families.
  • Responsible for assisting in the assurance of clinical procedures and the maintenance of up-to-date clinical protocols.
  • Must consistently observe and assure OSHA, and Standard Precautions are maintained.
  • Interact with professional medical staff in rendering comprehensive care to mutual patients.
  • Completes chart and peer review responsibility in a timely manner.
  • Responsible for adhering to the Attendance and Absenteeism Policy, recognizing that regular attendance is considered an essential function of all FHCN positions.
  • Ability to present to and work at any FHCN location, both at the beginning of a shift or during a shift, based on business need.
  • Other duties as directed.
