About The Position

The Dental Assistant's major responsibility is to assist the dentist in the operatory, maintaining instruments, work areas, and supplies under the direct supervision of a licensed dentist. This role reports to the Dental Staff Manager and contributes to the organization's mission of improving lives by providing convenient, comprehensive, high-quality healthcare.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate from an approved educational program in dental assisting.
  • Licensed registration certificate in x-ray technology approved by the Department of Environmental Protection.
  • CPR Required
  • Works with hazardous and bio-hazardous materials.
  • Long hours of standing, walking.

Responsibilities

  • Greets patient in the waiting area and escorts patient to dental treatment area.
  • Reviews dental record, including next procedure, current X-rays, referrals, dental labs, and medical history.
  • Takes and records vital signs, including blood pressure.
  • Takes dental radiographs and checks for clarity and readability.
  • Prepares dental operatory by setting up appropriate equipment for the procedure and explaining the process to the patient.
  • Performs pre-impression evaluation, including pre-selecting primary impression tray size, taking primary impression, and pouring the model.
  • Cleans and disinfects all rooms and the entire treatment area daily.
  • Maintains instruments by sonicating, bagging, and autoclaving them daily, and setting treatment trays daily.
  • Maintains strict scheduled maintenance of all equipment.
  • Performs four-handed dentistry, including retracting patient’s cheek and tongue, removing debris, assisting with dental procedures, suture removal, and assisting in training students and new staff members.
  • Maintains logs for bio, autoclave/sterilization, and rotation of instruments.
  • Closes down rooms and restocks them daily.
  • Provides oral health education to patients.
  • Pours and trims models.
  • Maintains dental supply inventory.
  • Reviews schedules to ensure lab cases are available.
  • Provides post-op instructions to patients after extraction.
  • Provides a safe environment of care and reduces the risk of nosocomial infections.
  • Interacts with patients, visitors, staff, and outside agencies in a professional manner.
  • Contributes to Improving Organizational Performance Activities.
  • Promotes positive working relationships among supervisor, staff, and other departments.
  • Interacts with all other departments to achieve health center mission.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Identifies problems and develops recommendations for resolution.
  • Demonstrates ability to organize and prioritize tasks.
  • Assumes personal responsibility for ongoing professional growth and development.
  • Participates in department planning activities, as requested.
  • Participates in health center committees, as assigned.
  • Adheres to CCHN personnel policies.
  • Maintains a clear and orderly work area.
