About The Position

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time, Dental Assistant to work in Miami. The Dental Assistant assists with oral surgery and other procedures, under the direct supervision of a dentist. This employee prepares and arranges needed tools and instruments for scheduled procedures, and hands necessary tools and equipment to the dentist and provides assistance during treatment. Furthermore, the Dental Assistant records findings, changes barriers, and sterilizes equipment.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in relevant field
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Performs a variety of technical duties to assist dentists in the examination and treatment of patients.
  • Screens patients for dental ailments.
  • Assists in the dental treatment of patients, including seating patients, mixing filling and impression materials, and examining charts and treatment results on patients’ dental records.
  • Explains procedures and subsequent treatments needed to patients.
  • Assists patients with questions, concerns, and medical history.
  • Sets up for dental procedures according to each patient’s treatment.
  • Records treatment results on patient’s dental record, instructs patients in the care of teeth and appliances, and provides instructional materials.
  • Cleans, sterilizes, and assembles instruments, supplies, and equipment.
  • Schedules and confirms appointments and requisitions supplies and equipment.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
  • Assisting dentists/Surgeons during procedures by handing them instruments and anticipating needs, do not leave the Physician unsupported. Don’t wonder off.
  • Cross coverage, you will support dentist and surgeons at any given time in the day.
  • Proactively and as time permits sterilize the equipment accordingly throughout the day.
  • When there is same day discovery of an unscheduled procedure that needs to be performed immediately, engage the practice manager to discuss fees with patients prior to starting the procedure.
  • Deering and UMH clinic coverage.
  • Shared clerical, inventory, and cleaning-related tasks among each other.
  • Clinic Preparation to ensure all required supplies are avaible for the day of procedure on a monthly rotation basis formulate supplies orders.
  • Weekly inspection of all medication in the CRASH CART to avoid oversight of expired items.
  • Daily AED test and completion of tracking form
  • Proper handling of ICAT, Panoramic and X-Ray machine.
  • Weekly inspection of Oxygen levels
  • Stocking the storage room with the items
  • Daily/weekly/as required execution of all clinic inventory tracking sheets.
  • Limit the use of cell phones while patient visit is in progress, in case of emergency have your family member call the office.
