The dental assistant works under the supervision of the dentist or dental director. Responsibilities include handling dental instruments and materials carefully and dexterously, maintaining operatories in a sterile condition, cleaning dental instruments and operatories, and managing supplies to prevent depletion. The role involves controlling patient flow, easing patient anxiety through conversation, taking updated medical histories, and preparing charts for appointments by scanning and charting preps 48 hours in advance. Additionally, the dental assistant performs maintenance on dental equipment as needed, assists in processing and mounting dental radiographs, and maintains patient radiographs as part of the dental record. Employees are assigned a primary work site but may be asked to work at another EVCHS site if the need arises, without performing tasks outside their job description or capabilities.
