This position is responsible for dental assisting as mandated by department policy procedures. The Dental Assistant will function as an integral, independent, enthusiastic member of the dental team, engaging in clear, effective, compassionate conversation with all external and internal customers. This role involves greeting, escorting, and rooming patients, and adhering to and enforcing hospital infection control and radiation safety procedures and guidelines. The assistant will support all aspects of chairside dental care in ambulatory and hospital inpatient environments, including anticipating the needs of dentists, hygienists, and patients. Responsibilities include retracting tissue, maintaining a clear operating field, assisting in the management of infant, child, and adolescent behavior, and preparing patients and guardians for treatment under the direction of the Dentist. This includes adjusting the dental chair, selecting, arranging, and explaining instruments and materials. The role also involves exposing and processing digital dental radiographs, cleaning dental trays and instruments, performing dental material functions related to procurement, custodial responsibilities, maintenance, and disposal of dental supplies and equipment, and cleaning and making minor adjustments to dental equipment. Documentation of patient encounters in electronic medical (Epic) and dental (Dentrix) records is also a key function, along with modeling the Nemours Standards of Behavior.
