About The Position

Wilmington Family Dental is seeking a Dental Assistant for a full-time, hybrid role supporting both hygienists in an assisted hygiene model and the general dentist during restorative and preventive procedures. This role offers variety, continuous learning, and the opportunity to impact patient experiences. The position requires a Massachusetts Licensed Dental Assistant who is either DANB Certified or a graduate of a formal Dental Assisting program, with a strong clinical foundation and commitment to patient care. This is not an on-the-job trained position.

Requirements

  • Current Massachusetts Registered Dental Assistant status
  • DANB Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential or graduation from an accredited Dental Assisting program
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Current Dental Radiology (X-ray) Certification
  • On-the-job (OTJ) trained candidates will not be considered

Responsibilities

  • Assist hygienists with patient flow and scheduling efficiency
  • Prepare treatment rooms and instruments before and after appointments
  • Take diagnostic digital radiographs
  • Record medical and dental histories, chart findings, and update patient records
  • Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
  • Maintain sterilization and infection control protocols according to OSHA and CDC standards
  • Help ensure every patient feels informed, comfortable, and cared for
  • Prepare patients for examinations and treatment procedures
  • Provide chairside assistance during restorative, crown and bridge, extractions, and other general dental procedures
  • Anticipate the dentist's needs by passing instruments and materials efficiently
  • Prepare, mix, and place dental materials as permitted by licensure
  • Take preliminary impressions and occlusal registrations as allowed by state regulations
  • Assist during administration of nitrous oxide when applicable
  • Clean and polish removable appliances
  • Record treatment completed and maintain accurate patient documentation
  • Maintain laboratory cases, including tracking incoming and outgoing cases and ensuring cases are available for delivery appointments
  • Sterilize and disinfect instruments and operatories
  • Perform weekly biological (spore) testing and maintain sterilization records
  • Complete monthly BORID reporting and other regulatory documentation as required
  • Maintain dental supply inventory and assist with ordering supplies
  • Dispose of clinical waste according to office protocols
  • Perform routine maintenance and care of dental equipment
  • Participate in daily morning huddles and contribute to efficient patient care planning
  • Assist with dental and medical emergencies following OSHA and office protocols
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance at all times
  • Represent the practice with professionalism, compassion, and positivity
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the success of the practice
