About The Position

This role is responsible for promoting a safe, cooperative, and professional healthcare environment to ensure optimum patient care. The Dental Assistant adheres to all hospital policies and procedures, making customer service a priority by treating patients, visitors, and co-workers professionally. Key responsibilities include maintaining adequate supplies and instruments, ensuring operatories are hygienic and functioning, and assisting doctors in direct patient care situations. This involves greeting and seating patients, preparing materials and instruments, performing four-handed dentistry, and anticipating clinician needs to maintain practice flow. The role also includes assisting in IV sedations, preparing and setting up the clinic, and ensuring it remains clean and tidy. Additional duties involve assisting in the acclimation of new staff, maintaining continuing education records (including CPR), working with the dentist on patient payments, and being proficient in the Dentrix system for scheduling, charting, and digital x-rays. The Dental Assistant is expected to be a team player, multitask efficiently, utilize downtime productively, and participate in various duties such as distributing supplies, cleaning, instrument sterilization, and maintaining the code cart. They are responsible for ensuring equipment is returned in proper working order and notifying supervisors of any equipment or supply issues. The role involves working with patients of all ages and performing doctor-ordered requests, including adding results to EPIC.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • One year experience in a private practice or clinic setting.
  • Bilingual (Spanish)

Nice To Haves

  • Certified and/or registered dental assistant preferred.
  • Epic/Wisdom training as needed

Responsibilities

  • Promote a safe, cooperative and professional health care environment to ensure optimum patient care.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, rules and regulations.
  • Make Customer Service a priority, treating customers (patients, visitors, and co-workers) in a professional manner exercising courtesy and tact.
  • Maintain adequate level of supplies and instruments in each operatory.
  • Maintain the operatories in hygienic and functioning order. Inform supervisor of non working equipment.
  • Give health care instructions to patients as well as take blood pressure and pulse.
  • Assist the doctors in direct patient care situations.
  • Prepare and set up clinic for day’s use and ensure clinic is clean and tidy throughout the day.
  • Assist clinicians by anticipating their needs during clinical procedures – ensuring practice flow is maintained.
  • Assist in IV sedations.
  • Assist in the efficient transition of new Dr’s and/or dental assistants to ensure better acclimation to the office.
  • Maintain an updated file of continuing education courses. Minimum is 12 hours annually and includes passing CPR course.
  • Work with dentist to insure patient payment prior to initiation of work.
  • Be proficient in the Dentrix system, including scheduling, charting, taking digital x-rays and documenting such in Dentrix.
  • Work as a team player and able to multitask efficiently.
  • Utilize downtime productively.
  • Participate in selected duties including distribute supplies to clinic, clean developer and laboratory, cover patient flow on the floor, assist in instrument sterilization, maintain code cart.
  • Be responsible for returning all items (hand pieces, endo system, and laser) in proper working order.
  • Notifying the supervisor about equipment problems or supply issues.
  • Works with patients of all ages.
  • Preforms doctor order request and adding results in EPIC. (Glucose, pregnancy test ex…)
