About The Position

Akahi Associates LLC is seeking a Temporary Dental Assistant to provide services to military treatment facilities. The role involves performing chairside dental assisting, radiology, and sterilization duties, with occasional needs for patient scheduling or records review. The position requires obtaining and recording patient medical history, charting examination and treatment information, sterilizing instruments, preparing surgical trays, and maintaining dental equipment. The dental assistant will also assist the dentist at chairside, perform intra-oral procedures, take preliminary impressions, remove sutures, place and remove dental materials, relay post-treatment instructions to patients, and instruct patients on dental care and techniques. Additionally, the role includes operating dental X-ray equipment, maintaining and performing minor repairs on X-ray equipment, pouring and trimming models, and maintaining reports related to dental activities.

Requirements

  • Graduate from a formal dental assistant training program that includes coursework on radiation physics, biology, health, safety/protection, X- ray films/digital radiography, image quality, and radiographic techniques that meets or exceeds 42 C.F.R. Part 75 requirements.
  • Minimum of six (6) months of clinical dental assisting experience within the last three years.
  • Certified in basic Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) approved by the American Red Cross or American Heart Association and reads Healthcare Provider Course.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chairside dental assisting, Radiology, or sterilization.

  • Sterilize instruments, materials, and equipment; prepare surgical trays.
  • Maintain dental equipment in a clean and operative condition.
  • Assist dentist at chair side.
  • Perform intra-oral procedures as directed by dentist.
  • Take preliminary impressions for study models, remove sutures, place and remove rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
  • Relay dentist’s instructions to patient for post-treatment care.
  • Instruct patient in proper dental techniques, care of appliances, and causes of dental decay.
  • Operate dental X-ray equipment to take intra and extra oral radiographs.
  • Maintain, clean, and perform minor repairs on X-ray equipment and materials.
  • Pour and trim models from impressions, and construct custom impression trays.
  • Maintain a variety of recurring reports related to dental activities.
