About The Position

Compass Government Solutions is currently recruiting qualified Dental Assistants to provide dental support services at Naval Medical Center San Diego in San Diego, California. This position supports dental treatment operations, patient care, dental laboratory coordination, and clinical support services in a military medical center environment.

Requirements

  • Certificate or Associate Degree as a dental assistant/technician from a program accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA) and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 months
  • Certification from a military dental technician or dental assistant school and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 months
  • Certification from a Red Cross Dental Assistant course and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 months
  • 36 months of experience within the preceding 48 months as a dental assistant in a private practice or military clinic
  • Membership in good standing with the American Association of Dental Assistants with required continuing education and 12 months of experience within the preceding 24 months
  • Training must include: Radiation physics, Radiation biology, Radiation health, safety, and protection, X-ray films and radiographic film quality, Radiographic techniques, Darkroom and processing techniques, Film mounting, Digital radiographic processing techniques
  • Certification in radiography as required by 42 CFR Part 7
  • U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to access requirements for U.S. Government computer systems and networks.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialization training in CAD/CAM technology, ceramics, or orthodontics preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative support to ensure efficient dental laboratory operations, including case intake, documentation, data management, and coordination of dental laboratory cases
  • Coordinate cases outsourced to military and civilian laboratories
  • Serve as a customer service representative for communication with dentists regarding case progress, updates, and due dates
  • Organize data related to laboratory case completion and anticipated lead times
  • Assist in restorative, prosthodontic, oral surgical, endodontic, and periodontal procedures
  • Receive and schedule patients for treatment
  • Obtain and record patient medical history, examination findings, treatment information, and prescription data
  • Sterilize instruments, materials, and equipment; prepare surgical trays; and maintain dental equipment in clean and operative condition
  • Assist dentists chairside and perform intra-oral procedures as directed
  • Take preliminary impressions for study models and perform authorized support procedures including removal of sutures, placement/removal of rubber dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges
  • Provide post-treatment instructions and educate patients on oral hygiene, dental care techniques, and appliance care
  • Operate dental X-ray equipment to obtain intraoral and extraoral radiographs
  • Maintain, clean, and perform minor maintenance on X-ray equipment and materials
  • Pour and trim models from impressions and construct custom impression trays
  • Maintain recurring reports related to dental activities
